Furniture Access Guide | Will My Sofa Fit?

Ensuring your new sofa fits comfortably into your home is essential. The last thing you want is to discover on delivery day that it won’t fit through a doorway, up the stairs or around a tight corner.
This guide will help you plan ahead and avoid any unexpected challenges.

1. Measure Your Sofa and Access Points

Sofa Measurements

Before anything else, make sure you know the height, width and depth of your chosen sofa.
These can be found on the product page under the “Overview” or “Dimensions” section.
Remember to include any parts that protrude, such as feet, arms or cushions.

You may wish to note down the measurements here:

Sofa Height:
Sofa Width:
Sofa Depth:

Doorways & Hallways

Measure every doorway and hallway the sofa will need to pass through.
Pay close attention to narrow points such as corners, radiators, shelving, skirting and light fittings.

Use these simple checks:

Doorway Height > Sofa Width?
Doorway Width > Sofa Depth?
Narrowest Point in Hallway > Sofa Height?

If each answer is yes, your sofa should pass through smoothly.

Staircases

If your sofa needs to go upstairs, measure the staircase at its narrowest point.
Remember to allow for bannisters, handrails and light fixtures.

Checklist:

Staircase Width > Sofa Height?
Height Between Bannister & Ceiling > Sofa Depth?
Landing Height > Sofa Width?

If you have a turn on the stairs or a small landing, ensure the delivery team will have enough room to manoeuvre the sofa.

Lifts / Elevators

If you live in a building with a lift, measure:

• Open-door height
• Open-door width
• Internal lift depth

Checklist:

Lift Height > Sofa Height?
Lift Width > Sofa Width?
Lift Depth > Sofa Depth?

If all three are correct, your sofa should fit comfortably.

2. Consider Turns, Corners & Obstacles

Think through the sofa’s entire journey from the van to its final position.
Check for:

• Tight corners
• Narrow doorways
• Hallways with obstacles
• Doors that don’t open fully due to cabinets or walls

Clear away any existing furniture before the delivery team arrives to create a smooth path.

3. Check for Overhead Clearance

Remember to think vertically as well as horizontally.

• Make sure ceilings are high enough
• Check for low-hanging light fittings and chandeliers

Checklist:

Ceiling Height > Sofa Width?

4. Consider Disassembly Options

Removable Components

Many of our sofas come with removable legs and cushions, which can reduce the overall size for delivery.

Bolt-On Arms

Some of our models are available with Bolt-on-Arms, allowing the arms to be removed before the sofa enters your home.
This dramatically improves access in tight spaces.

If you think you may need this feature, please contact our Sales team before ordering.

5. Prepare for a Smooth Delivery

Clear the Path

Ensure your hallways, landings and doorways are free from clutter or obstacles.

Professional Assistance

We use trusted couriers who provide a two-man White Glove Delivery Service.
They will bring your furniture into your home and position it in your chosen room.

Please note:
It is the customer’s responsibility to check access before delivery.

Alternative Routes

If the usual route is too tight, consider:

• A back entrance
• A patio door
• Through an adjoining room
• In rare cases, through a sufficiently large window (your responsibility to prepare)

By taking these simple steps, you’ll greatly reduce the risk of any access problems and ensure your new sofa arrives safely in its new home.
